The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly!!!

We started the day out at Dacosa, had a good turn out and raised over $320 for St Jude. And when this nite was over there was over $2000 total raised in memory of Griffin, and this money will be destined to be delivered to St Jude soon. I will let you know more on this later.

The night was marred by an event late in the race that was an example of the most un-sportsmanship like few moments I have ever witness at our race track, and it all happened in the pits. Not only did these few moments ruin the entire mood of the race for some, it put spectators, and track workers in harms way. No one was injured thankfully, and that was good, but how can anyone let an event on the track go to those extremes? It was an embarrassment to witness.

So much for the ugly. The bad was the dust. No humidity and this dust seem to hang around forever before finally succumbing to the nite air and sunset. And then there was the "good".

The racing. Along with Tom Bakers commentary I have not witnessed a better nite of racing at ARP ever. I said it over and over in the tower, "can you believe this?"

The racing was close and hard and for the most part without incident. There was two incidents that gave us all concern, one was when Tyler Smith suffered a hard it in the Junior Animal Champ class that injured his hand, and the other was when Malena Wilson in the senior champ hit the #4 guard rail and got into the air as high as anyone ever has at ARP. It was to be sure a very scary few moments. Both competitors walked away and the racing continued. Thank for our safety equipment these drivers were wearing.

But the day and night belonged to the memory of little  Griffin Warniment who lost his battle with cancer last fall. His dad Al, and a few of his friends came down to race at Dacosa and ARP and we turned the day into one none of us will soon forget. One of Al's fellow racers from Ohio, Ryan Moran, won Stock Medium at Dacosa, and Stock Lite at ARP, not an easy task at either location.

It was a long day, good racing, bad dust, and ugly tempers but in the end, it was a day full of smiles, memories, tears, and friends made and welded together in this sport of kart racing.

Thanks Dallas Schwerin for helping me put together this race. Thanks to Al Warniment and friends all the way from Ohio who came down and had fun, and yes race fans, you can still have fun in this sport even though some people cant.

And thanks to all the staff of both tracks who spent a long day doing what we love to do.

And to all who donated to St Jude, no words can self explain what they feeling was to see racer after racer bring his and her money up there to give it to the kids of St Jude in memory of one special angel, Griffin Warniment.

And we do it again this coming weekend!!!
