2nd Annual Spring Classic - June 6,2004

It was a record setting night in all our Spring Classic Racers.

All class records were broken and a new track record was set by Josh Boaz in the\e new class of the O.H.V. Animal Heavy's. Josh unloaded and qualified with a track record time of a 10.911 to lead the qualifying of the Animals.

In Junior 1, it was a record breaking time of  the "G-Man" Garrett Carroll who stepped into the #76 kart and set fast qualifying at 11.457.

In Junior Sportsman Champs Aqua, it was Will Holder, driving the #37, setting fast time and a new record of 11.778

Super Heavy Class, saw the record fall to Wade Massey driving the #2M to a record time of 11.557.

And in Stock Light, Josh Boaz stunned the crowd with a 10.966, to set the time record and lock down a second of the night pole position for the feature race.

Congrats go out to the record holders and you can see all the records in al the classes on the Class Record Page.

In our Junior 1 race, the first segment belonged to Andy Stephens driving the #12 kart. Andy held off his cousin Scott "the rocket" Hensley, by just over a half second to win segment one. In Segment two it was all Andy Stevens driving to a well earned victory almost 3 seconds ahead of second place finisher Marshall Higgs.

Our next race was the Animal Heavy class. In the first segment, Josh Boaz took the checker, but only by a little over two tenths over Roger Wilson. Josh won the second segment just a third of a second of Brent Rowell. You can tell the Animals are coming of age for sure.

In the Junior Sportsman Aqua class we had a change of drivers. Will Holder who usually drives the #76 open kart, took the driving chores in complete command as he piloted the #37, which is normally driven by the "G-Man" Garrett Carroll. Will took the first segment, over a hard charging John May, and was the second segment winner over a close behind, Cody Burks.

A note here, the "G-Man" Garrett Carroll , took over driving Holders #76 open kart and finished a respectable 4th, in Junior 1, AND now holds the class record for the class. Not bad at all for the switch for both drivers.

Our Next race was the Super Heavy class. After a record setting run by Wade Massey driving the 2M to pace the class in qualifying with a 11.557, it was Glenn Vann taking the first segment over second place finisher Kevin Fike, driving the 220 entry. Kevin finished just 3 tenths behind Vann, and in the second segment, it was Fike, who took the final checker, holding off and persistent Massey in the 2M kart. This was Kevin's first feature victory at ARP and we give him total congrats on his effort.

The race of the night was the 17 karts of Stock Light. What can you say but a lot of contact, and some awesome racing. Once again we had another record fall, and once again it was broken by Josh Boaz, taking the pole position with a 10.956, over a second place qualifying effort by Ty Jones of a 10.959, and race fans you cant blink your eyes in 3/1000's of a second. This just indicated what was to be a close and difficult race to be our spotlight of the night.

In the first segment, with 15 karts finishing on the lead lap, it was Ty Jones driving the #341, to a close finish over Brian Samples in the #7 entry. Right Behind Brian was Mark Pasino in the #33, and they all crossed the finish line within eight tenths of a second. Awesome for sure.

Second segment was Ty's to win or lose but he held off the pole sitter, Josh Boaz to take the victory along with the money, in this hard hitting and fiercely competitive race.

Congrats go out to all the racers who set records and won segments and took the money home. We thank EVERYONE who came out, both the racers, and the fans and teams. We didn't have much of a kart count, and we are going to look closely at the format and possibly combining more classes and turning it into a 2 day event for next year.

But all in all it was some exciting racing and all who attended got to see the whole realm of emotions.
