The 2001 Points Chase Begins

Race Results

April 7th, 2001

If you had to add everything up and see what you had when you stood back and looked at the full scope of this race,  the word that comes to mind is "awesome", and the next word?.....is "late", VERY late!  With almost 130 entries, we had a great turn out and the fans came out too on this very windy but warm and wild night of racing.  New procedures, and some bad timing, made for a very late finish we hope not to repeat ever again. We finished the last feature at 1:40 am and that, race fans, is just unacceptable.

Hard Charger Winner ~~Troy Dow~~The night started out with the presentation of our Hard Charger Award for our previous race, on March 24th. Troy Dow, who drives the #21 Junior Sportsman Champ in the "purple restrictor" division, was our first winner of this award for our 2001 season.  Troy has competed in the Junior Novice Class and this year elected to drive in the new and ever growing Junior Sportsman Champ Class. Congratulations go out to Troy and his family for their efforts.

The races may have run long, but that did not stop the intensity of the competition. A great example of this intensity and excitement was the Junior 2 race. Ricky Stenhouse challenged leader Kevin Swindell, time and time again for the lead, making contact over and over, but Kevin held off Ricky's attempts to pass, each time. On the final lap Kevin and Ricky crossed the finish line side by side with Kevin winning by no more than a few inches. It was the closest finish I had ever seen at ARP.

It was not just the Junior 2 race that made this night special, as we had a lot of first time feature winners, as well as some of the veterans showing to us all what kart racing is all about.

First time winners at ARP in their classes, Brent Rowell, Jake Tucker, and Cody Burks. Way to go racers!

Congrats go out to our first Survivor Series Winner, Ty Jones, who battled the field to take the first win of the year for this race.

I don't know much else to say but if this is an indication of things to come then the 2001 season at Atoka will be awesome, simply awesome!!

I do have a note here tho, some of the pictures did not come out clear at all for some reason and I think I know why, and will try to correct this for our next race. Taking these digital pics is just one of the many tasks I have to make happen on race night and I need to move it up on my list of priorities. I will be happy to retake any pic that did not come out and once again I apologize for this problem.....Danny

Junior 1

1 Gary Boggan

This was one of those races you like to watch. Even tho Gary led all the laps, Justin Carver, and Will Holder, made him earn the victory. Good driving Gary, good driving all these drivers.

2 Justin Carver
3 Will Holder
4 Scott Parker
5 Keith Ainsworth

Junior 2

1 Kevin Swindell

If we had photo-finish decisions at ARP then we would have had to use it on this one. After taking the lead in the 3rd lap, Kevin Swindell, never gave it back, but he held off some very strong racing and pressure from Rickey Stenhouse. The finish of this race was so close we had to go to the flagman and all three scorers to get the decision. Winning by an inch or two at the most, Kevin held off a determined Stenhouse, for the win. (sorry, but picture file is not available)

2 Rickey Stenhouse
3 Samantha Gargus
4 Jake Tucker
5 Alan Kirk

Junior 3

1 Garrett Mack

Last years Junior Stock champion proved to be the tops in this race. Garrett Mack drove to his first victory this year. Once again it was Jeff McWilliams taking the second spot, the very same finish he had last race. Jennifer Jackson, Brandon High, and Brent Hogue rounded out the top five in this 13 car field.  The pic at left shows Garrett and his friend Dustin Stagen.

Junior Sportsman Champ [Purple]

1 Tony Pollard

Once again it was the hard charging Tony Pollard taking the top honors in the purple division of our Junior Sportsman Champ class. This makes two in a row for young Tony, who has eyes on the Aqua division, from what I hear.

Junior Sportsman Champ [Aqua]

1 Cody Burks

Last year when I first met Cody, he was dressed in full camouflaged driving suit, and drove a full "camo" kart in our Novice class. It is so awesome to watch the energy, and "hope" in the eyes of our young racers, and no one expresses it any more than this young driver. His first victory at ARP in this class this week marks just the beginning of a lot more to come. Congratulations Cody!

2 Brandt Barksdale
3 Nathan Holder
4 Zach Hutcherson
5 Steven Sullinger
6 Jared Neiswander

Junior Champ

1 Jake Tucker

Only two karts this week in the Junior Champ class, but two or twenty two, it is still good to see our juniors in the Champ Classes. Jake tucker took his first ever win in a champ kart, defeating Jeffery Keltner. Jake also drives in the Junior 2 class where he captured the 2000 points championship. Congrats Jake!

Veteran Driver Rusty Stagen held off the "young guns" of Jones, Hyatt, Valley, and Lovins to take top honors in the Stock Light class. Rusty had to feel the heat building as the race went on but never let up and took the top spot. Good Job Rusty!

Stock Medium

1 Ty Jones

Our first Survivor Series Race, of 2001 was captured by Ty Jones. Ty held off Joey Henderson to capture the double points victory. We had 18 start the feature, and it was a wild wild race. Hard Charger Award

Rusty Stagen

#81

Rusty Stagen is our Hard Charger for this race. Rusty passed more karts in one race than I have ever seen. Had the race lasted for more laps I am sure he would have passed even more. I don't think I had better mention the race in question, but Rusty gets the hard charger award for this week.
