138 and out by midnight!

With extra lighted pit areas in use for the first time, it was a solid sea of parked trailers and racers for this second race in May, our fifth race of the season, and our fourth race in the Summer Points Series sponsored By Wendy's.

There was so much real close and awesome racing that it is hard to single one race out as the best. Veteran Driver Rusty Stagen, took two victories and had to be one of the most happiest drivers all night long. Ty Jones, took his second Survivor Series title of the year in the Stock Light 40 lapper; with only one caution, "that" was an awesome race.  Dan Gairhan took his first victory of the year in Mods, and Junior 3 racer, Brandon High took his first ever victory at ARP in what had to be the most notable win of the night making a pass on the third turn of the last lap. And then there was Junior 2 winner Mark Pasino, who held off numerous attempts and bumps by the ever trying Kevin Swindell.

Junior Novice racer Phillip Higgs captured his first victory of this year, and repeat winners, Will Holder, Tony Pollard, Brandt Barksdale, Jake Tucker, Joey Henderson, Chris Smiltneiks, and Jason Moss, made the evening quite a night of awesome racing.

We had consolation races in the Medium, and Light classes, and with 138 entries we were able to finish at 11:50 pm. That says a lot about our program, our fans, and most of all, our racers! In the first five races this year, we have averaged 134 entries.

That is a testimonial for our efforts in making ARP a facility all of us can be proud of and enjoy being at. We do not expect to please everyone every single race, but we will give everyone the best we can in dirt kart racing in the mid-south area.

Thanks everyone for your continued support!!!!

Junior Novice

1 Phillip Higgs

It was the first feature win of the year for Phillip Higgs, and the second overall at Atoka. Phillip won a feature last year back in August and it was good to see the blue #5 back in victory lane. Phillip led the first two laps but fell to second behind a hard charging Brandon Malone, but Malone got crossed up in lap traffic with two laps left and Higgs passed to take the victory.

Junior 1

1 Will Holder

The night belonged to Will Holder once again in our Jr 1 class. Will took the lead early on and never gave it up. Will held off second place finisher Brandt Barksdale to take the victory. Pictured here are friends Brandon and Ryan Malone.

Junior 2

1 Mark Pasino

It was two weeks in a row to victory lane for the #3 kart of Mark Pasino. Mark held of a flurry of attempts by Kevin Swindell to pass his on the last few laps to take the victory.

Junior 3

1 Brandon High

If I have my facts straight, this was Brandon High's first feature win at ARP. Brandon has been a regular racer for the last two seasons, but has fell short of the checkered flag on numerous attempts. Tonight he chased down Rickey Stenhouse and made the pass going into turn three of the white flag lap to take the win by less than a kart length.

Stock Light

1 Ty Jones

Ty Jones wins yet "another" Survivor Series Race, winning this time in the Stock Light class. Ty's previous victory in the Stock  Medium Survivor Series Race on April 7th, just shows his determination and skills on the track.  Both on and off the track, Ty seems to have his act together.  "Mr Consistency", has won four out of five Stock Light titles, and two out of five stock Medium titles so far this season.

Stock Medium

1 Rusty Stagen

It was veteran driver, Rusty Stagen who battled off a hard charging Ty Jones, and Chris Smiltneiks, to capture the win in the Medium class. Rusty took the lead on the 3rd lap from Ty, and never looked back, which he really didn't have to, I am sure he felt Ty's presence.

Stock Heavy

1 Joey Henderson

Joey Henderson took the top spot in our Heavy Class.  Joey took the lead on the third lap and held off Kennedy and Smiltneiks to take the win. Joey's crew chief Dustin Stagen is shown here in the winners circle..:)

2 Robert Kennedy
3 Chris Smiltneiks
4 Andy Hamm
5 Justin Pierce

Stock Super Heavy

1 Chris Smiltneiks

Chris Smiltneiks took the lead on the 2nd lap and held off Rickey Kennedy to take the top spot in our Super Heavy class.

4 Stuart Acree

Over 35

1 Rusty Stagen

It was three in a row for Rusty Stagen. Rusty held off Sonny Ivy from the green to checkered, but you can bet he felt Ivy right at his back door. This was a very good race, by two very good competitors.

2 William Ivy
3 Richard Keele
4 Tim Wilson
5 Angelo Martino

Mods-Lims-Opens

1 Dan Gairhan

It was Dan Gairhan taking the victory, outlasting the charge from Garrett Gray, this is Gray's second week in a row finishing in the second spot.

2 Garrett Gray
3 Mark Lott
4 Joey Henderson
5 Josh Booker

Senior Champs

 1 Jason Moss

Once again it was Jason Moss taking the victory in the largest class of Senior Champs we have had this year. It is great too see the champ class growing and some new faces, and some very old ones, make it a very exciting and fun class to watch. By the word "old* I don't mean age, I just mean some faces that have been around a long time in karting.

Hard Charger Award

We are going to give out a hard charger award each week to a driver who shows determination and sportsmanship. This will most likely be a racer who strives to do his best. I have a winner this week, but we wont announce it until our next race. His or her picture will be placed here then.
