Novice Junior

It was hot, not warm, just plain hot and very humid. It had rained almost everyday leading up to the weekend. In fact we had to finish working the track on Saturday morning which we don't usually do.

We didn't get to practice Friday night, and yet the track came in so good we had another 5 class records fall as the night went on.

This time of the year also has fewer karts coming out due to the heat and to vacations. We still had 106 which still lets us average 133 for the points races so far. And for those numbers, we thank each and every one of you.

The records fell in Rookie Sportsman, as Justin Rochelle made his better with a 12.287. In Junior Champs, it was Beau Browning returning to visit and he took the checker and set the record with a 11.614. In Super heavy, which was the very lite and shortened Survivor Race, it was Kevin Fike with the win and the record of 11.397. Wade Massey took the record home with him in the Over35 class with a 11.474. And Jason Moss made his mark better with an improving 11.712.

We also had for a short time a new track record set. Following the races, Junior 1 driver Lane Templeton came up to me and ask if the computer ever made a mistake in the times. I told him basically no, and he shows me his printout and it had a lap time of 10.562 at over 50 mph. Quite impressive for an Aqua motor I would think and for a few moments it seemed he may indeed have set a new track record. After a little investigation, I realized he had spun into the infield on the previous lap and went below the detection loop for scoring, and I had to insert what is called a manual passing. That way he would still be scored in the order he was racing. But the time of the lap is invalid when u enter a manual passing on the scoring and so is the next lap which happened to be his 10.562 indication.  But for a brief moment in time Lane Templeton did in fact hold the track record with a 10.562. I am not sure Lane trusts my computer anymore.

Even tho the kart count was a little down, we had some great races, and we were finished by 10:30!!, which is probably a record in itself for a count of over 100 karts.

We congratulate all the feature winners, and Shasta Brown took her very first victory in our Novice Champ class; way to go Shasta.

The racing move of the night had to be in the stock medium class. The first 9 laps were led by hard charger Josh Boaz, but Josh got a little loose and taking advantage was Mark Pasino as he took a shot at a hole that was there for only a split second. He made what turned out to be a winning pass and took the checker. It was an awesome race and an awesome move by the #33 kart of Mark Pasino.

Our Summer Classic is this weekend. If you don't come out to be a part of it, we hope to see you back on the 24th.

See ya soon,

-Danny
