This weeks race was under a hot and humid sky and track conditions were tricky at best. But we had some awesome racing, and a great turn out considering this was a make up race and all area tracks were running, The Topless IMCA race was happening at Batesville, The Knoxville Nationals were on the tube. We thanks all the racers and fans who came out to see some racing action. Cody Caldwell won his first ever feature in our Novice class. Both Higgs brothers won their classes. Josh Boaz once again won in two classes. Keith Benson who has only been able to race with us twice this season, came back to win the Survivor race in our Lite class. Darryl Dickerson did the Huddle House Shuffle on the winners circle podium, after winning his first Over35 victory this season. And we had many return winners in the other classes. We also want to welcome yet another generation of racer to ARP. Joey Lunati ran his first race this week in our Novice Junior class and in fact won the heat race. If you have been around racing at all over the past 40 or so years the the Lunati name means a lot of history in race circles. I was fortunate to race in the exact class that little Joeys grandfather once raced in at Lakeland Drag Strip back in the mid 60's. We are pleased to welcome Joey and his race team and family to ARP!! As with all racers, young and old you are most welcomed to join us at ARP!!! It was a good night, we were finished by 11 pm, and we again thank everyone who came out to enjoy the family atmosphere.

I went out to the track on Sunday afternoon to do the post race work on the points and the exported files to do this website when I saw something you have to see. Lucky I had my camera with me. Corbin is the grandson of Steve Graves, and they were out visiting the track, and getting some seat time for his other grandson John. It made me realize once again why I do this, and why I like to do this as much as I do. Could he be a future racer at Atoka? We hope so, but the fact he was out there with his family, spending some quality time, made it special to witness. Beyond all the slanderous name calling, the finger pointing, and the tensions of our sport; beyond all that is an awesome beauty that we better not over look as what makes it important to us all!!
